Economic Development needs to be a priority for
southwestern Indiana.
The hard working citizens of southwestern Indiana do not
deserve an employment rate that is as high as it is and
my goal is to change that by working with both state and
local officials as well as the members of the business
community to spur economic development by creating more
middle class jobs.
While it is essential to work with exiting companies, I
feel we must also encourage new businesses to locate
here. Part of encouraging these new companies to
relocate here will involve educating them with the fact
that we already have the trained workforce available.
One of my goals is to create as many opportunities for
the residents in Spencer and Warrick counties as exist
in Vanderburgh. By developing economic opportunities in
these areas we will create additional opportunities
within the rest of the district as a whole.
Our housing market has almost come to a halt; if we
develop industry that provides more meaningful jobs then
the housing market will respond and produce even more
jobs for southwest Indiana.
On the same note, these jobs need to provide good
benefits, which will in turn help with our continuing
health care problems.
One of the benefits of new jobs and industries is
exactly what we saw when Toyota moved to the area where
other new support spinoffs developed as well.
Economic Develop is very very important as it helps with
property taxes, health care, and reduces the need of
public assistance programs.
