Announces Candidacy in House District 78
Luce Township Trustee to run for Statehouse seat
Richland, IN. – Luce Township Trustee and life-long resident of
Southwest Indiana James “Pete” Rapp announced his candidacy for
Indiana House District 78 today.
Rapp, a Democrat and past Volunteer Firefighter, decided that it
was time to step forward and continue his work fighting for the
people of Southwest Indiana.
Rapp graduated from South Spencer High School in 1985 and
attended both Vincennes University and the University of
Southern Indiana. He has served as Luce Township Trustee since
2002.
“I understand the challenges that are facing working families in
Southwest Indiana,” Rapp said. “If elected, I will tirelessly
represent our needs in Indianapolis.”
Rapp believes that the General Assembly must do more to provide
meaningful and lasting property tax relief for Hoosier
homeowners. He also wants to focus on furthering economic
development in Southwest Indiana.
“The creation of high-paying jobs with quality benefits will be
a top priority for me,” Rapp Said. “It is simply not right for
families to be living on the minimum wage with little to no
access to affordable healthcare.”
Rapp is tired of seeing schools in Southwest Indiana continue to
lose their funding to the big schools in Indianapolis. He
believes that there is no greater investment we can make than in
our children’s education.
“The most important thing an elected official can do is to
listen and make sure the voices of the people he represents are
being heard in Indianapolis,” Rapp said.
Rapp has been married for 18 years and has two children. He is a
member of the Richland Lions Club where he served on the Board
of Directors and as President. Currently, he is a board member
of the South Spencer Youth League and on the Spencer County
Board of Planning and the Spencer County Property Appeals Board.
He and family attend the Richland United Methodist Church. Rapp,
while as a Volunteer Firefighter in Luce Township, he served as
President, Captain, and Instructor. He has also served as an EMT
for the Spencer County EMS.
